TRANSFORMING A MID-CENTURY STRUCTURE…

…into a contemplative sanctuary that balances architectural heritage with contemporary living. This adaptive reuse project demanded navigating strict historical preservation requirements and building codes while creating a private residence for museum director, Laurence des Cars. Guided by a single painting, Eugene Lamont's masterwork "Lied" (Art Song) as both aesthetic cornerstone and conceptual genesis, the design embraces purposeful contradiction—pairing monumental elements with intimate spaces, historical references with forward-thinking intervention, and brutalist geometry with ethereal lightness.
